How to get internet in Morocco without a difficult arrival

Updated on 24 August 2026

In short

The easiest way to get internet in Morocco is to install the eSIM before flying and select it for data on arrival. For most travellers, 10 GB at €20.99 gives comfortable room. Three GB at €8.99 can be enough for maps and messages with accommodation Wi-Fi.

A car stops at the last drivable square and the riad is five minutes inside the medina. The downloaded pin covers the walk; data lets the traveller tell reception they are close.

Riad Wi-Fi arrives after the hardest part of the journey

Accommodation internet can handle evening downloads, but it cannot locate an unmarked medina door, receive a driver's update or correct a booking before arrival. An eSIM fills that mobile gap without a shop visit.

A local SIM may suit someone needing a number or using a phone without eSIM. For the Atlas, the robust setup combines live data with a stored route, address, ticket and contact. None of the four options—eSIM, local SIM, roaming or Wi-Fi—removes the need for that backup.

Install it at home on Wi-Fi. On arrival, select the eSIM for mobile data and keep data roaming blocked on the usual line. In Morocco, keep data for the medina and the return transfer.

Before flying: prepare these details

  • Choose whether you need data only or also a new local number.
  • Check the usual carrier's exact roaming terms for this country.
  • Install the eSIM on stable Wi-Fi and keep its instructions.
  • Separate Orange Morocco coverage from local Maroc Telecom and inwi offers.

Before entering the Atlas or continuing towards the desert, download the route, booking and guide's phone number. More data cannot help on a stretch with no signal. The eSIM handles live changes; the saved copy covers the stretch without a network.

Is hotel and riad Wi-Fi enough for Morocco?

It can cover the room, not transfers, medinas or roads. Without mobile data, download every key address and contact first.

Do I need a Moroccan number for maps and messaging?

Not for data-based services. A local line may help with traditional voice, while this travel eSIM is data only.

Must I remove my usual SIM?

No, if your phone supports two lines. Choose the eSIM for data and keep data roaming off on the usual SIM.

Can I travel using only Wi-Fi?

Yes, but you will be offline between the airport, accommodation and excursions. Download maps and bookings before leaving.

Which networks can the eSIM use in Morocco?

Orange Morocco. The exact network depends on the plan and the signal available at that place.
