Mexico's geography matters more than its city count
Choose a Mexican eSIM around distance, days without Wi-Fi and the media you create. City maps use little data; video from excursions or sharing data with a laptop changes the amount you need.
Telcel and AT&T are listed, but exact network choice and availability depend on package and area. A larger bundle adds allowance, not nationwide certainty. Roads, islands and reserves still require stored bookings and maps.

My recommendation: start with 10 GB. Drop to 3 GB when photos and video can wait for Wi-Fi; move to 20 GB when work or a laptop depends on the connection. In Mexico, protect part of the allowance for roads, ferries and the journey home.
Before flying: prepare these details
- Count the periods without dependable Wi-Fi, not only the total days.
- Separate video calls, uploads and connection sharing from maps and messaging.
- Before paying, check that the phone supports eSIM and is not locked to one carrier.
- Confirm whether the accommodation is in Cancún, Isla Mujeres or Riviera Maya.
Before taking a long road, ferry or cenote excursion, save tickets, the address and the transfer contact. Signal can be uneven on those stretches. Choose the allowance for your usage; the saved map and bookings matter just as much.
