How to get internet in the United Arab Emirates without a difficult arrival

Updated on 24 August 2026

In short

The easiest way to get internet in the United Arab Emirates is to install the eSIM before flying and select it for data on arrival. For most travellers, 10 GB at €28.99 gives comfortable room. Three GB at €10.99 can be enough for maps and messages with accommodation Wi-Fi.

A driver changes the hotel entrance while the traveller moves between a station and lobby. Data delivers the message; a stored address and number cover an indoor signal loss.

UAE mobile data covers the journey public Wi-Fi leaves between locations

Airports, hotels and malls may offer Wi-Fi, but sessions, privacy and continuity vary. A preinstalled eSIM follows the metro, taxi and inter-emirate road. A local du or e& SIM uses the documented visitor process and may include other services.

TDRA maps support route checks. Store organiser details before the desert, and never promise a particular calling app simply because the phone has data.

Install it at home on Wi-Fi. On arrival, select the eSIM for mobile data and keep data roaming blocked on the usual line. In the UAE, check calling apps and save the desert route before departure.

Before flying: prepare these details

  • Choose whether you need data only or also a new local number.
  • Check the usual carrier's exact roaming terms for this country.
  • Install the eSIM on stable Wi-Fi and keep its instructions.
  • Do not promise that a calling or messaging app works merely because data does.

Download the route before driving into the desert or between emirates. If you need a calling app, check its availability before travelling and keep another contact method. The eSIM handles live changes; the saved copy covers the stretch without a network.

Can I tour the UAE with public Wi-Fi only?

It is possible with preparation, but Wi-Fi does not follow taxis, metro or roads. Store maps, bookings and contacts.

Does the eSIM guarantee my preferred calling app?

No. It supplies data on du where available; app service also depends on compatibility and current rules.

Must I remove my usual SIM?

No, if your phone supports two lines. Choose the eSIM for data and keep data roaming off on the usual SIM.

Can I travel using only Wi-Fi?

Yes, but you will be offline between the airport, accommodation and excursions. Download maps and bookings before leaving.

Which networks can the eSIM use in the United Arab Emirates?

du. The exact network depends on the plan and the signal available at that place.
